The amended rules of the European Patent Convention, effective on April 1, 2010:
- impose heavy restrictions on the filing of divisional applications;
- reduce the possibilities of having more than one independent claim searched; and
- make it compulsory to reply to objections raised in an opinion accompanying a search report drawn up by the European Patent Office (EPO).
